Bangladesh Dengue Fatalities Increase with New Deaths Reported
September has emerged as the deadliest month, accounting for 104 deaths so far, while August recorded 43 fatalities, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services.
Health authorities also reported 1,868 new dengue-related hospital admissions over the past 24 hours, pushing the number of hospitalized cases recorded this year above 67,000. Most patients have since recovered and been discharged.
Official figures show that Bangladesh has experienced more dengue infections and deaths this year compared with the previous year.
Dengue spreads to people through bites from infected mosquitoes, and there is currently no specific treatment for the viral disease.
Separately, health authorities reported 11 additional child deaths linked to measles-like symptoms, raising the overall toll to 1,076 since mid-March.
Among these fatalities, 101 have been officially confirmed as measles-related deaths.
The number of people showing measles-like symptoms has reached 183,449, while confirmed infections have risen to 20,851 following 1,270 newly reported cases.
