Macron to pay state visit to China to develop ties

(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron will embark on a three-day state visit to China starting Wednesday, aiming to deepen relations amid global challenges, Beijing’s Foreign Ministry announced Monday.

The visit, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, marks Macron’s fourth state trip to China. The two leaders will discuss guiding bilateral relations under “new circumstances” and exchange views on key international and regional issues.

China and France are “comprehensive strategic partners,” with bilateral trade reaching around $80 billion. The visit comes amid global tensions, including US efforts to end the Ukraine war, ongoing trade disputes, and Trump-era tariffs affecting China-EU relations.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the countries’ shared history, values, and practical cooperation, calling for enhanced strategic communication and deeper collaboration in a “fluid and turbulent international situation.”
