Mozambican Leader Plans Visiting Russia
She shared this news during a press conference after discussions with her Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, held in Moscow on Tuesday. Chapo assumed office as the head of the southeastern African country in January.
Lavrov confirmed that he intends to reciprocate the visit by traveling to Maputo. His previous trip to Mozambique occurred in 2018.
The two countries formally established diplomatic relations back in 1975.
During the joint press conference, Lavrov remarked, “Madam Minister kindly invited me to once again visit hospitable Maputo. I will certainly do so.”
Mozambique is aiming to tap into Russian expertise across various critical sectors. Lucas emphasized the importance of fishing and maritime development, given Mozambique’s extensive coastline along the Indian Ocean and its relatively undeveloped fisheries industry.
“Russia has a vast experience in the field of fisheries development and development of water resources,” Lucas noted.
She added, “We would like to develop cooperation in the field of the industrialization of our country, we would like to use the support and the experience of Russia.”
