Bulgaria, Romania Eliminate Border Controls Checks

(MENAFN) Border control checks between Bulgaria and Romania were officially eliminated on Tuesday after a six-month transition period, as reported by media.

This move represents a key advancement in the two Balkan nations' journey toward full integration into the Schengen Area, the report emphasized.

The agency also pointed out that the temporary border restrictions were part of a deal negotiated with Austria, which had previously opposed Bulgaria and Romania's full inclusion in the Schengen zone.

The timing of the removal coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Schengen agreement, underscoring the significance of this development.

However, media also clarified that Bulgaria's southern border with Greece remains under the same scrutiny as before, with authorities still authorized to conduct checks when deemed necessary.
