Lewotobi Laki-Laki Volcano Eruption Sparks Flight Disruptions to Bali
(MENAFN) Air travel to Bali faced significant interruptions on Wednesday after a volcanic eruption in eastern Indonesia. The upheaval came after Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted on Tuesday in the East Nusa Tenggara province, sending a towering ash plume soaring 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) into the sky.
Multiple airlines suspended their flights to Bali amid concerns over volcanic ash, as reported by media, which referenced the Bali international airport’s official website. Among the carriers affected were Jetstar and Virgin Australia, both halting services to various Australian destinations. Additionally, Air India, Air New Zealand, Singapore’s Scoot, and China’s Juneyao Airlines also canceled flights to the popular tourist hotspot.
Situated on the island of Flores, east of Bali, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki had its alert status elevated to the highest level, four, on Monday, as stated by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation.
Indonesia lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire and is recognized as one of the planet’s most geologically volatile nations, boasting 130 active volcanoes.
