The strikes follow recent Ukrainian operations involving short-range, first-person view drones reportedly launched from hidden compartments in freight cars. Ukraine claimed the attacks had inflicted serious damage on Russian airfields, but Russian officials have dismissed those claims as exaggerated.
Moscow stated that these retaliatory actions are also a response to the recent derailment of a passenger train, which Russian investigators have linked to Ukrainian sabotage operations aimed at damaging infrastructure and undermining public morale.
Among the latest targets hit were the Dubno airfield, Ukrainian weapons factories, drone assembly sites, ammunition depots, and various other military facilities. Earlier on Monday, Russia also reported downing 79 Ukrainian kamikaze drones during nighttime air raids, part of an ongoing pattern of drone strikes that have reached deep into Russian territory. One such attack recently knocked out power in the Kursk Region.
Ukrainian media outlets claimed Russia used Kinzhal hypersonic missiles to hit the Dubno airfield, though Russian officials have not confirmed the type of weapons used. Reports suggest Ukraine has deployed both Soviet-era aircraft and Western-supplied F-16 fighter jets in the Rovno area.
