Trump Opens Door to Forgiving Musk
The altercation marked a sharp turn in the relationship between the two, who were previously considered political allies.
The confrontation intensified last week over Trump’s “Big Beautiful” tax and expenditure legislation.
Musk, who recently resigned as the chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), launched strong criticisms at the bill, contending it counteracted his attempts to eliminate excessive federal spending.
Musk accused Trump of showing “ingratitude,” threw his support behind impeachment initiatives, and even threatened to derail the American space initiative by suspending the Dragon spacecraft operations.
Trump retaliated by saying Musk had “gone crazy” and suggested the dispute was sparked by the discontinuation of the ‘EV mandate,’ referring to government subsidies that had significantly benefited Tesla.
In return, Musk posted — and then deleted — a message that connected Trump with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In a Wednesday interview with the media, Trump stated, “I have no hard feelings. But I was really surprised that that happened.”
He described the bill as “phenomenal” and expressed dismay at Musk’s reaction. “When he did that, I was not a happy camper,” Trump added.
