Pitbull says fans dressed up like him is “an honour”
(MENAFN) At 44 years old, Pitbull—whose birth name is Armando Christian Perez—has achieved global success with over 25 million albums and 100 million singles sold.
During his latest concert tours, he’s noticed a growing trend: fans showing up dressed just like him. Pitbull describes this experience as “an honour.”
"It's the ultimate trophy to be able to go on stage and see all the hard work that you put into the music. I've been in the game for 25 years and to see every demographic, everybody [dressing up] at the shows is priceless," he adds.
With roots in Cuba, Pitbull started his musical journey in Miami’s Latin hip hop scene, drawing from the vibrant cultural influences of his hometown.
In the early 2010s, he made the leap to pop music, a move that led to chart-topping hits and high-profile collaborations with stars like Christina Aguilera, Usher, and Shakira.
The rise of music streaming, compared to traditional radio, has allowed Spanish-language music to thrive in regions where it’s not the primary language—an advantage Pitbull has capitalized on.
"There's an irony as I'm kind of an anomaly in the music business," he says.
"In the Latin world they said I was too English, and in the English world I was too Latin, so to bring it together now, when it all really started around 2010, feels really good."
