Russia, nations across Global South create multipolar digital future

(MENAFN) Russia and nations across the Global South are deepening digital cooperation, leveraging opportunities created by Western sanctions, according to participants at the inaugural Global Digital Forum held in Nizhny Novgorod.

The two-day conference, which began Thursday, welcomed representatives from over 100 countries, including China, India, and several African nations. Discussions focused on expanding partnerships in trade, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and technology exchange.

Zhou Liqun, head of the Chinese Entrepreneurs’ Union in Russia, highlighted the resilient economic ties between China and Russia, noting bilateral trade had reached $240 billion last year. Despite sanctions, he observed an increase in Chinese companies entering the Russian market, signaling strong prospects for future collaboration.

Sun Tianshu, founder of the China-Russian Platform, echoed this optimism, stating that Western sanctions had created new opportunities for Chinese businesses. He also noted that prior obstacles, like payment difficulties, have been largely overcome.

Indian cybersecurity leader Sunny Vaghela advocated for closer AI and cybersecurity collaboration between the two nations, pointing out Russia’s technological capabilities and India’s tech talent. He revealed that several Russian firms are exploring partnerships in India.

African participants also expressed enthusiasm for digital collaboration, particularly in fields like agriculture, education, and data management. Tanzanian expert Henry Nkya noted interest in applying AI to improve productivity at home, while colleague Mawazo Mataje emphasized mutual learning and cultural exchange.

Bangladeshi tech entrepreneur Mohammad Saber Shah praised the forum as a valuable platform for global networking, calling it a “bridge” for identifying partnership opportunities. He highlighted Bangladesh’s longstanding ties with Russia and emphasized the potential for meaningful digital cooperation.
