Austrian Authorities Uncover Pipe Bomb at Graz Shooter's Home
The improvised explosive device was located on Tuesday, shortly after the perpetrator took his own life following the tragic incident, as reported by the Styrian State Police Directorate, according to an Austrian news agency. Investigators also retrieved a farewell video addressed to his mother and a suicide note.
Police spokesperson Sabri Yorgun stated that the suspect had legally acquired both the shotgun and the pistol utilized in the assault. Yorgun emphasized, "He should not have been carrying them under any circumstances."
While certain media outlets speculated about potential past bullying of the perpetrator, law enforcement officials refused to corroborate these claims, and specific information regarding his tenure at the educational institution remains undisclosed.
Concurrently, Austrian authorities have documented a surge in threats seemingly inspired by the attack. Franz Ruf, the director general for Public Security, informed public broadcaster O1 on Wednesday morning that "several copycat offenders" had issued threats in the aftermath of the shooting.
The Styrian police confirmed ongoing investigations but refrained from labeling the suspects as copycats. Yorgun clarified, "There has been no further shooting spree, but there are suspects who are now seizing on the fact that such an incident occurred."
The casualty count from Tuesday's school shooting in Graz has escalated to 10 fatalities, including seven students, one teacher, and the alleged gunman, according to police reports.
The shooting unfolded at approximately 10 a.m. local time (0800GMT), prompting an immediate evacuation of the school.
A three-day period of national mourning commenced on Wednesday morning.
